PARISH YOUTH ACTIVITIES

Acolytes-Youth ranging in age from 11 to 23 years old and adults. They serve at the Lord’s Altar during Sunday Services for the parish members. Contact: Heather Leonard.

Corpus Youthus (Teens)—9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m., Room 6.

Nursery Education—Christ Church Nursery provides Christian education to babies and toddlers from birth to three years. A staff of volunteers minister to the child's spiritual, physical and emotional needs. To help your child start out in life realizing God's place of worship is very important and meaningful. They need to begin at a very early age. Nursery opens at 10:15 a.m. Contact: Graci Vargas.

Children’s Chapel—invites pre-school through 5th graders to join the procession to Chapel to enjoy a child’s version of church; Room 7 at 10:00 a.m.
Preschoolers through 5th graders explore the Good News Gospel through crafts, music, games, lessons and prayer:

4th & 5th Graders—Room 5.

Children’s Choir—meets in Room 5 after the 10:30 Liturgy (approx. 11:45), September through May. Contact: Annette Craighead.

 

TEEN FELLOWSHIP

TEENights—Teens meet the second Saturday of each month at 5 p.m. to worship together, share a meal together, enjoy fun games and fellowship each with a monthly theme.

Lights, Camera, GOD? High school teens meet the fourth Saturday of the month at 5 p.m. worshipping together, sharing popcorn, fellowship and a movie.

TEC (Teens Encounter Christ) Vegas Style—A weekend retreat for teens by teens and about teens. It is an unforgettable experience filled with laughter, excitement, friendship and insight. Whether you are looking for a relationship with God, other Teens or just finding yourself, you’ve found a place to belong. TEC is the right place.

New Beginnings—A weekend retreat for Middle School youth, who explore their relationships with God, their family and friends while having a camping experience. Held in the fall of each year.

ADULT CHRISTIAN EDUCATION
A variety of Adult Education offerings are scheduled Sunday mornings, 9:15 -10:15 and some evenings during the year. For the current class schedule, call the parish office.

LABYRINTH GUILD Christ Church has its own canvas Labyrinth that is placed in the parish hall the 3rd Thursday each month for anyone to walk. This ancient meditation path was built permanently into cathedrals, such as The Chartres in Paris and in Grace Cathedral in San Francisco. Contact: Gael Hancock.

QUIET DAY RETREATS Adult days of quiet reflection are offered several times a year, including during Advent and Lent. The retreats begin on Saturday mornings in the parish hall at 9:00 a.m. and close with a noon Eucharist in the church or chapel. Rev. Mary directs these reflective, Scripturally based, Quiet Days.

FELLOWSHIP AND MINISTRY

The ARTS AND CRAFTS group meets Tuesday mornings to create handmade articles year round for Easter, Halloween, and Christmas sales. Contact: Beverly Kelly.

COFFEE HOUR You are invited to the Parish Hall for fellowship after the Sunday morning Liturgy.

DAUGHTERS OF THE KING is a religious order for women who are communicants in good standing in the Episcopal Church. It is a lifelong program of prayer, service and personal evangelism. St. Martha's Chapter meets the second Saturday of each month at 10:00 a.m. Contact: Betty Brake.

EPILOG NEWSLETTER is published monthly and contains news of and about Christ Church and its members. Anyone can submit articles, the editor may revise them as necessary. Articles should be in the parish office no later than the 15th of each month for inclusion in the next month’s edition. Contact: Shawna Cooper, editor. After the EpiLog is printed, a group gathers in the office to fold and label them. Want to join this group?, call the office.

EPISCOPAL CHURCH WOMEN (ECW) includes all women of the parish in every age group. All women are welcome to attend the monthly meetings held at 9:15 a.m. on the last Sunday of each month. Dues are $15 per year. The function of the ECW is to meet the needs of the parish with regard to special functions (receptions, special event luncheons, as well as bake sales). Funds raised from these events are used to provide items needed by the Church which are not in the budget. Contact: Donna Newsom.

The HOSPITALITY MINISTRY focus is to better minister to members of the household as well as making visitors and newcomers feel welcome. Among visible signs of this ministry are birthday cards sent to members of the household and the "remembrance" packet with information folders, bookmark, and other items. INTEGRITY / SOUTHERN NEVADA is a national organization of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered Episcopalians and their friends. Integrity’s goal is to share God’s inclusive love with the Episcopal Church and the GLBT community. We meet the 3rd Friday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the parish hall for dinner and program. MAD RED HATTERS OF CHRIST CHURCH are Women of Christ Church that are over 50 that are known by their red hats and purple outfits. They are dedicated to nothing and out to prove that life after 50 can be fun. There are no rules, no real dues, and no real goals or mission other than to get together regularly to have a good time. The Red Hat Society is an international organization with thousands of members across the country and internationally. Queen Mother (contact) is Annette Craighead.

The MEN’S FELLOWSHIP BREAKFAST GROUP meets the second Saturday of each month at 7:30 a.m. Breakfast preparation rotates among the members. Guest speakers are often invited to talk on a wide variety of topics. Please join us at any meeting. Contact: David Polley.

The PRAYER GROUP of Christ Church is an organized group who pray for individuals and families who request intervention. Contact: Betty Brake or Jacie Lenning.

THE UNION OF BLACK EPISCOPALIANS (UBE) is a national organization founded in 1792 and organized as a Union in 1968. UBE is a confederation of chapters and interest groups throughout the United States and the Caribbean. As the mission nationwide remains constant, to remove racism from the Episcopal Church, in Nevada our focus is on the needs of our Churches and Communities. The Nevada Chapter of the UBE meets the third Saturday of each month at 12:00 noon at Christ Church. All Episcopalians are invited to join the Union regardless of ethnicity. St. Mary’s ALTAR GUILD has a threefold purpose: 1) to be of service as directed by the priest; 2) to prepare the altar and sanctuary for every service; and 3) to maintain the linens and holy vessels. Contact: Jacie Lenning.

CHALICE BEARERS assist at the Altar for Sunday Eucharist and other designated times throughout the year. Contact: Maggy Holmes.

CHRIST CHURCH CHOIR provides music for the 10:30 a.m. Sunday service and occasionally for the 8:00 a.m. service. We meet for rehearsal Wednesday night from 7:00-9:00 p.m., and one-half hour before the service on Sunday. The choir is open to all singers, high school age and up. We prepare two anthems per week and work the music for three rehearsals prior so there is adequate time for singers at all levels of ability to learn the music. As most of the music is sung in parts, a knowledge of and / or an ability to read music is very helpful but not a requirement. There is a 'no audition' policy for this Choir, as we welcome anyone who wants to "make a joyful noise unto the Lord." Contact: Kathi Colman.

EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS (EM’s) assist the celebrant at the Altar during Eucharist and read the Second Lesson during Sunday services. Contact: Maggy Holmes.

GREETERS A Sunday morning ministry to greet and welcome all to Christ Church, visitors and household members alike. Contact: parish office.

The LAY EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS (LEMs) take communion directly from the principal Sunday Eucharist to shut-ins, hospitalized or incarcerated persons, or those unable to attend regular Sunday Services. Contact: Helen Morris or Midgene Spatz..

LECTORS / READERS/ INTERCESSORS read the First Lesson during Sunday services, or the Intercessory prayers at each service. Contact: Maggy Holmes.

OBLATION MINISTERS carry the wine, water, and bread to the Altar during the 8:00 and 10:30 a.m. masses. Contact: parish office.

USHERS Members of the congregation meet, greet and assist persons coming to worship services. They distribute programs to persons entering the sanctuary and assist in directing them to seating. After each service, they are responsible for picking up used bulletins and recording the attendance numbers. When persons new to the congregation are identified, ushers deliver a HOSPITALITY GIFT to each. Contact: John Smits.

All the Lay Liturgical Ministers listed above are scheduled on a rotating basis with other members of that ministry.

BEREAVEMENT MINISTRY As Christians we know that death is a part of life and that upon death we are going to enter into fuller life. What we usually do not realize is that when we lose someone whom we love we are not always equipped to deal with making the necessary decisions that are required of us. The Bereavement Ministers are lay persons who are trained to assist people in the bereavement process. Contact: Deacon Marguerite Cole.BUILDING AND

GROUNDS Volunteers are often needed to spruce up and clean up church grounds and buildings. This group is affectionately called “The Grounds Squad.” Contact: Joann Vaughn or Mark Petrimoulx.

The CHRIST CHURCH GIFT SHOP is open most Sundays year round. It has Christian jewelry, books, cards and a variety of other items for sale. Funds from the Gift Shop are used for items not in the budget. Contact: Beverley Kelly.

The ENDOWMENT COMMITTEE was formed in 1999 and has three members (elected at the Annual Meeting) as well as the Rector and Senior Warden. The Endowment was started due to the age of Christ Church to assist in future major repairs to the property. Its goal is to reach $500,000 and to use only the interest income annually for major repairs. Contact: Elana Graham.
EPISCOPAL RELIEF AND DEVELOPMENT (ERD) is the collective response of Episcopalians to help people in need in the United States and around the world. We provide emergency assistance, as needs require, to local Episcopal or Anglican representatives. Contact: Deacon DeLaney Armstead.

FAMILY PROMISE (formerly The INTERFAITH HOSPITALITY NETWORK (IHN)) is a coalition of faith communities in the Las Vegas valley who help insure that homeless parents and children have a safe place to rest while they start their lives over. Christ Church is a host site for 4 weeks a year. We provide shelter and meals for the families. We need your help to make the program work. Contact: Deacon Bonnie Polley.

LOBSTER FAIR is held annually in October. It is an excellent opportunity for volunteering as all kinds of events are presented and each needs volunteers: Lobsters sold—cooked and live, Arts & Crafts, Gift Shop, Nibblers’ Corner for eats, hot dogs & drinks sold by the EYC, bake sale with parishioner provided baked goods, Fisherman’s Corner where clam chowder, Cole Slaw, and other goodies can be eaten or taken home, raffle of donated items, and the list goes on and on. The MEMORIAL COMMITTEE was formed at the request of the Rector and consists of 6 members. These members meet on an as needed basis to assist in the decision making for memorials as well as other needed purchases for the Church proper. Contact: Fr. Massey.

OFFICE VOLUNTEERS are needed when the secretary is out of the office for a few hours or a day now and then. Volunteers are only expected to answer the phone, distribute the mail, make copies and send and receive faxes—you don’t even need to know how to type. Contact: parish office.

OUTREACH VOLUNTEERS Christ Church Outreach operates a food program providing non-perishable food to those in our community who are in need of food. The Outreach Office is open Monday-Friday from 11:00—1:00. We provide food for an average of 2,500 people each month. We operate out of Room 3 facing the parking lot. TREASURE HOUSE THRIFT STORE If you haven’t seen the Christ Church Treasure House in Suite 6, you’re missing an opportunity. Open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 - 3, Saturdays from 10-4, it’s attractive displays invite you to shop. Haven’t been to the library lately? Treasure House has a great selection of books (paperbacks 25¢, and most hard covers 50¢). There is an infant corner which rivals any retail store. The nearly-new wee outfits, sweet, clean and colorful, will dissolve any mom’s or grandmother’s resistance. An excellent opportunity for volunteering. Contact: Judy Koehn.

The UNITED THANK OFFERING (UTO) is a mission arm of The Domestic & Foreign Missionary Society of the Episcopal Church in the United States of America. The UTO was begun in 1889. Twice a year the monies collected during the UTO Ingathering from each church are sent to the national UTO committee which determines what requests for grants shall be met. Every cent collected is distributed in grants. Contact: Cheryl Fox.

AMAZING GRACE MINISTRY meets every Wednesday at Christ Church to build a community of faith among homeless and near homeless individuals and families living in the Las Vegas Area. On the second Wednesday of each month, Christ Church volunteers prepare and serve meals from the kitchen for those in need. For more information, contact Shawna Cooper.

THE EPISCOPAL CENTER ON THE PARKWAY The buildings adjacent to the Church are known as the ECP or South Property. This is commercial property that the Church leases to businesses. If you know any organization or company that would like to lease a suite, contact Fr. Dale Augustin.
